Changsha Huanghua International Airport

Landrum & Brown (L&B), a global aviation planning and development consultancy, was selected as the winner of the Changsha Huanghua International Airport (CSX) T3 design competition in teaming with China South West Architectural Design & Research Institute (CSWADI) and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group (CREEGC).

In 2016, Changsha Huanghua International Airport served more than 21 million annual passengers (MAP), which ranked 13th in terms of passenger traffic in China.

With a goal to develop a central China air hub, the 500,000 square meter Terminal 3 will serve 40 MAP with flexibility for future capacity increase. International gates will be located on the center pier and domestic gates on the surrounding piers, thus facilitating convenient domestic and international connections.

A new ground transportation center (GTC) of 270,000 square meters will be built, including high-speed rail, inter-city rail, metro and multi-mode ground transportations.

The airport authority client noted it was “a creative terminal concourse and apron configuration scheme to maximize the airfield operation efficiency while minimizing operation delay in the cul-de-sacs.”
