Landrum & and Brown were commissioned by Guangzhou Yun International Airport in 2005 to simulate and analyze the side/air operations of the flight area of ​​Baiyun Airport. The purpose of the simulation analysis of Baiyun Airport is to help Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport determine the long-term flight area type, operation mode and long-term staging planning, and provide capability support for optimizing the comprehensive flight area and airspace system. The Pearl River Delta airspace, where five major airports of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macau coexist, is the most complex airport in the world. Landrum & Brown adopts air computer analysis technology to optimize the layout and airspace of Guangzhou Baiyun’s flanks. The structure, different regional conditions, operating conditions on the side, the scope of long-term terminal planning, and the layout of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport have been studied and analyzed more deeply to understand and provide the best solution.

After the airside/airspace computer simulation project, the consortium of Landrum & Brown and Guangdong Provincial Institute participated in the tender for the T2 terminal and was selected as the winning proposal. The innovative configuration scheme of the conceptual design scheme of the T2 terminal fully realizes the optimal balance of the operating efficiency of the airfield, the walking distance of passengers, commercial development, and the flexible development of the terminal building in phases in the near and long term. After winning the bid for the terminal building project, it has successively participated in the passenger simulation of the T2 terminal building and the project of the T2 landside transportation center plan.

In 2017, through the review of the international expert group, the design team submitted the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Aviation Hub master plan demonstration project plan, which ranked first among the plans submitted by multiple participating teams. Other related studies of this project also include: multi-level research and analysis of airport master planning, flight area planning, terminal area planning, and transportation planning.

In 2018, Landrum & Brown successfully won the bid for the functional layout optimization project of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport Airfield. The project aims to improve the operation efficiency of the runway and taxiway of Guangzhou Baiyun Airport and reduce the risk of potential conflicts. Based on the research results of the “Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Master Plan”, a surface operation simulation model is established based on the current operation plan and future planning plan of the airport. To analyze and evaluate the current situation of Guangzhou Airport and the airside capacity of the airport in multiple development stages in the future, and carry out optimization research work on the operation of the flight area and the airport system; analyze the constraints on the operating efficiency of the airport surface, and study and demonstrate the north-south circumnavigation, runway crossing, and take-off. The optimization plan for the waiting area, taxiway, exit position of the quick exit, etc., from the perspective of comprehensive optimization, the optimization adjustment plan and implementation plan suitable for the development of ground operations in the flight area of ​​Guangzhou Airport are proposed.
